CBP stops drug smuggling trifecta at the Andrade port
Three types of narcotics found in truck's gas tank
WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) prevented a triple-play of drug trafficking at the Andrade Port of Entry.
Officers say they found three different kinds of narcotics hidden in the gas tank of a Chevy pickup.
The truck came through the port just after seven Monday morning. A drug dog in secondary inspection pointed officers towards the truck's gas tank.
That's where they found 15 packages hidden. Officers say one package contained fentanyl. Seven were filled with heroin. Seven others contained methamphetamine. The drugs weighed in at nearly 50-pounds. They have an estimated street value of more than $278,000.
CBP arrested the driver, a 36-year-old U.S. citizen, and turned him over Homeland Security Investigation agents. He's now in the Imperial County Jail awaiting formal charging.
