Imperial Valley citizens to face stricter penalties for not appearing for jury duty
Penalties include a large fine or incarceration
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Superior Court of California, County of Imperial says a fine will now be imposed for those who don't appear or check in for jury duty.
A fine of up to $1,500 or incarceration may be put on citizens for failure to show for jury service, according to a press release from the Superior Court.
A second notice will be sent if someone doesn't respond to a jury summons, if that notice isn't responded to then the juror will need to appear for a judge for a hearing.
Penalties such as the fine will be imposed if the juror does not give a valid reason as to why they didn't appear in court.
