YPD is hiring
YUMA, Ariz.- The Yuma Police Department (YPD) needs more than a few good men and women.
YPD is down 13 officers in spite of some very appealing pay incentives.
Officers explained police work is tough, but it's a very rewarding career.
News 11 sat down with an officer, fresh out of the academy, who has high hopes for her future with the department.
She said the chance to serve the community makes her job better. Even during the most difficult calls, she says she realizes she's making a difference.
“It’s nice because you don’t have to go out and arrest everybody you know, basically I just went and counseled them about their problems and create a plan that they can get better and try to get along more,” said Officer Hatten.
Officer Hatten was hired on after she decided Yuma was a great place to begin her law enforcement career.
YPD has even more to offer experienced officers a $10 thousand signing bonus on top of an already- competitive salary.
