Imperial County prepares for election day

IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Less than a week away from election day, the county says about 87,000 are registered to vote and ready to go.

Lindsey Dale is the register of voters, she says residents can vote by mail or drop it off at one of the 57 drop-off locations throughout the county. 

"If they choose to vote in person on election day they do need to bring that ballot they received in the mail to their polling site so we can verify they have not already voted," she said.

While things have been running smoothly, Ramon Castro, a Brawley candidate for the Imperial Irrigation district says some ballots were mailed incorrectly. 

"This is the second time that it happens it happened in 2020, it is a very specific area and it is an area that specifically hurts my campaign," he said.

The county says the issue has been fixed.

"We were able to catch those voters, we have notified them and new ballots have been sent out to them and we feel very confident those voters have been given the right tools and information," she said.

As for Castro, he says he can only rely on preparation to get him past the first round. 

"We will be reaching out to supporters we will continue to knock on doors, it is going to be a very close race I believe we will be one of the top two that come out of this election, we have the best proposals and ultimately the ones who truly know the needs of the community," he. said.

Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 8:00 p.m. Vote-by-Mail ballots may be turned in before the polls close at any polling place in the jurisdiction.
