Little Free Libraries are popping up in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) -Little Free Libraries is a nonprofit organization with more than one hundred thousand registered book-sharing boxes worldwide.

Take a book or share.

Little Free Libraries are a way to spread the joy of reading while giving locals free access to a book at any time.

“I think it’s a special thing to be able to share with your neighbors,” said local little free library Katrina Karpati.

Just a few weeks ago Katrina Karpati placed her own little free library outside of her house.

She says books are already quickly flying out and in of her library.

“We’ve had a lot of different books rotating through and we had a lot of donations from the community,” said Karpati.

Having little free libraries is great for our local neighborhoods because you can easily take or leave a book, making it a fun way to exchange books with the community.

More little free libraries are continuing to slowly pop up around the city.

“I love little library,” said local Nolan Behler.

Local coffee shop Cafecito recently placed one of their own, expanding the book sharing for locals.

“They’re perfect you know I’m not always lugging around a bag of books and so for little things like this it’s great and it’s also good for some child and parent time to just stop and read a little book,” said a local Elaine Behler.

It’s free for anyone and even if you take a book it’s not required to return it.

“Please use it. We want it to be open to all ages, all genres of books, anything you want to stick in there, anything you want to take any time of day it’s here,” said Karpati.

In order to keep the book mailbox full, it’s encouraged for everyone to contribute so there are always plenty of books inside.
