79-year-old man dies in motorcycle crash near Salton Sea

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - California Highway Patrol says one person died near the Salton Sea area after a motorcycle crash.

On May 1 at about 12:00 p.m., a 79-year-old man was driving a Harley Davidson on SR-78 east of Whitlock Road.

Police say the driver wasn't able to turn on the slightly curved road and drove onto the sand when he got ejected then died of his fatal injuries.

Investigators mentioned the driver was wearing a safety helmet and impairment does not appear to be a factor.
