Rep. Grijalva announces funding to help with high energy bills

With summer around the corner and locals ready to crank the A/C, millions will be going towards helping people who are struggling - 13 On Your Side's Luis Lopez reports

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - With summer right around the corner, high energy bills are also on the way.

However, help could be coming for low-income residents.

U.S. Representative Raul Grijalva announced $3.5 million in federal funding.

Grijalva says the funding is designed to help people out.

In a press release this week, Grijalva said quote

“As working families in Arizona grapple with rising global energy prices, it is essential that we bring down costs and ensure that Arizonans can keep the lights on"

One Yuma local, Kenneth Reynolds told us he’s no stranger to high bills.

He even had to make a change to his house to save money.

“We’re conservative, we manage our energy costs, but I know if you really want it cold in your house you’re going to pay for it, we had an old air conditioner before we replaced it years ago we had a $300 electric bill and that’s not unusual,” Reynolds said.

The funding is coming as a result of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, administered through the U.S Department of Health And Human services.
