U.S citizen tried to hide over 30 kgs of illegal drugs

SALTON SEA, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - U.S. Customs and Border Protections says a man was arrested at the Highway 86 checkpoint for attempting to smuggle illegal drugs.

On Tuesday at about 7:10 p.m., a Jeep Patriot was referred to secondary inspection where a K-9 detection team alerted agents to the back of the vehicle.

Agents used x-rays to scan the Jeep and several substances were found in over 100 packages.

The substances tested positive for meth and some tested positive for heroin, all with an estimated combined street value of over $300,000.
