Yuma fire destroyed eight mobile homes, one RV damaged
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - At least eight families lost their homes after a fire ripped through a mobile home park in Yuma.
Tense moments for all, especially for one woman who put her life in danger to help others.
Leonora Gutierrez knocked door to door, just moments after smelling something burning.
“A few minutes later, the smell was really really thick, so that’s when I looked up over here and I see the flames going up, so what I did, I just walked over here and started knocking on doors,” said Gutierrez.
Gutierrez took this video footage as she was helping evacuate everyone out of their homes.
Another neighbor, Guillermo Medina, helped Gutierrez in her efforts.
“Do I just ran out and I still saw people running out of their house so I just came and helped them. I told them to move their cars before the fire gets bigger because of the wind," said Medina.
“One person, addy, he was half asleep, he was asleep, so we were knocking on the door and he would not wake up, eventually he did and we took him out. From there we went to the neighbors houses to see is there was anybody in there and thank god there was no body else,” said Gutierrez.
The neighbors thankful for Gutierrez and Medina's efforts, along with the dozens of firefighters who sprung into action.
“My sister’s house caught on fire a little bit, but not much. It wasn’t totally lost,” said Medina.
Coming together to be there for one another, during a very difficult time.
