Calexico Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying burglary suspects
Smash and grab burglary at a mom and pop shop leaves owner heartbroken - News 11's Vanessa Gongora reports
Calexico, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Early this morning, Saldos Luz, a shop that carries many baby products, was vandalized and burglarized by three crooks in their late teens and early 20s.
They shattered the plate glass to get into the building.
Police say there was an alarm system that notified the owners and the police department.
According to Officer Jonathan Rangel, one of the owners Daniel Avila was first on scene.
"He just waited for officers to arrive. Our officers made sure the area was clear, that nobody was inside then reviewed the footage," said Rangel.
When the police department arrived within minutes, Officer Miguel Carbajal said they patrolled the area heavily afterward and could not find the suspects but no other burglaries were called in.
According to the owner Luz Avila, the suspects stole the register cash box that held about $100 and a medical scooter.
Avila says the building is not insured so she will have to pay over $600 out of pocket to replace the window.
She says she's heartbroken.
"Above all, we’re really sad about the incident that occurred since we’re barely surviving by the grace of god due to how bad the economy is," Avila said in Spanish.
She said unfortunately this isn't the first break-in. This is the third time in a year and a half.
The suspects are caught on footage and the Calexico Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying these suspects. If you have any information, please call the Calexico Police Department at (760) 768-2140.
