An overcomer signs LOI

Viren Vega declares for Justice College

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A local prep student athlete is awarded for her perseverance.

Kofa Lady Kings soccer standout Viren Vega is a solid example of an overcomer.

Despite missing her junior year due to COVID and her senior season because of an ACL tear, her soccer playing days will resume at the collegiate level.

On Monday afternoon at Rillos Gym at Kofa High School, the Kings Athletics family held a signing ceremony in her honor, where Vega has officially inked her letter of intent to play women's soccer at Justice College out of Chandler in the Phoenix area.

A significant reason for Vega's decision, was the Lion's continued commitment to signing her, despite the ACL injury keeping her inactive for the past 6 months.

This also proved to be the motivation she needed to continue her rehab and press on with the dream Vega has for playing at the next level.

"It was really devastating, but I tried to keep myself up every day. And it's really motivating to me that I'm actually going to college and having a major and actually playing this time. That I had the opportunity and I won't waste it."
