Calexico Unified School District appoints interim superintendent
Still no deal reached between teachers and district - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico Unified School Board voted to appoint Dr. Brian Thurman as acting superintendent of the Calexico Unified School District (CUSD).
Dr. Thurman was appointed on Thursday following the resignation of Superintendent Carlos Gonzales.
Bianca Arellano is a parent of three kids who go to schools within the CUSD and says she hopes change is made.
"I hope this person is a leader and comes into this role and is not afraid to start making changes, it is really needed right now with the district and the positions this board is making, I hope he knows what he is stepping into," she said.
Arellano also says she wants to see the interim superintendent support his teachers and grant them the pay they have been asking for months now.
