Ketel Marte agrees to 5 year contract with D-Backs
Marte ranks second in the Majors with a .318 average since the start of 2019
PHOENIX, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed with INF Ketel Marte on a 5-year contract through 2027, beginning in 2023, with a team option for 2028. The contract was announced by the Diamondbacks in a news release on Tuesday, March 29th.
Marte ranks second in the Majors with a .318 average since the start of 2019, trailing only the White Sox Tim Anderson (.322).
Last season, Marte was named the D-backs’ Most Valuable Player by the Arizona chapter of the BBWAA after hitting .318 with 29 doubles, 1 triple, 14 home runs and 50 RBI in 90 games.
In 2019, Marte finished fourth in the NL MVP voting and was the starting second baseman for his first All-Star Game while setting career highs in average (.329), on-base pct. (.389), slugging pct. (.592), OPS (.981), home runs (32), doubles (36), RBI (92) and hits (187).
The Diamondbacks open the season at home on April 7th against the San Diego Padres.
