4th Avenue and 14th Street high-speed crash causes car fire
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - On Monday, Yuma Police officers responded to a call of an injury collision on 4th Avenue and 14th Street just after midnight.
The beginning investigation showed a 24-year-old female and a 47-year-old passenger driving a white Honda Accord were heading southbound on 4th Avenue nearing 14th Street at a high-speed, at about 12:09 a.m.
While speeding, the car swerved left and crossed all lanes then hit a light pole and three U-Haul trucks parked at 1402 S. 3rd Avenue.
After colliding into the light pole, the car caught on fire with both people trapped inside.
Officers and witnesses quickly aided the occupants and were able to control the fire.
Officers say they were able to physically pick up and move the vehicle so the passengers could be removed from the car.
Both driver and passenger were taken to the Yuma Regional Medical Center and transported to Phoenix area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol and speed may be a factor in this collision.
This case is still under investigation.
