Man found stabbed Wednesday night in El Centro

EL CENTRO, Calif. - (KYMA, KECY) - One man was stabbed after gunshots were fired in El Centro and had to get transported to Desert Regional Medical Center.
On Wednesday night around 9:35 p.m., the El Centro Police Dept. responded to shots fired called in the area of 300 S. 5th St. The caller stated several people were in the area and in a physical altercation.
When officers arrived on the scene, there were unable to locate anyone involved but several gun casings were found.
While they were investigating the shots fired call, ten minutes later at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to 600 Heil Avenue to a male who had been stabbed.
The area is only four blocks away from where the officers found the shell casings.
Officers went to the scene, attended to the male victim and were later flown out to Desert Regional Medical Center, a hospital out of the county.
Sgt. John Seaman said the age of the victim was unknown as well as his condition.
"At this time we don't know if these incidents are related and our detectives are going to have to conduct some additional follow-up to see if there's a link between the shots fired call and the individual that got stabbed," Sgt. Seaman said.
