Midnight at the Oasis kickoff
YUMA Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) -
Hot rods and classic cars on the streets of Yuma can mean only one thing.
Midnight at the Oasis is back.
The Caballeros de Yuma are kicking-off the “29th and a half” annual Midnight at the Oasis in Downtown Yuma tonight.
This classic car show returned after being canceled last year due to COVID-19, which would have made this the 30th anniversary.
The events began with a fun run from Desert Hills Golf Course to Historic Downtown Yuma for the rally on main street.
Chris wheeler, owner of Prison Hill Brewery and President of the Downtown Merchants Association, says the rally brings around five-thousand spectators to downtown yuma.
“Every year for about the last 6 or 7 years, it started off with the end of the parade, they would come downtown and they would park and now they got the good idea to park all the cars on Mainstreet and it’s become a formal event,” said Wheeler.
Midnight at the Oasis will continue at Desert Sun Stadium throughout the weekend with classic cars and concerts.
Captain Midnight, Travis Smith, said “there are a few locals, but we get entrances from all over the country. We get them from the northwest, midwest, we have people that come from all over the united states to participate in our car show.”
Maryjane and Wayne Zaroff have been participating in MATO for over 20 years.
“When our daughters were little we used to come with them, and now we have grandchildren that will be driving them in the parade and they enjoy coming and the foods good and we love looking at all the other cars, said Zaroff.
The Zaroffs will be showcasing five classic cars this year.
Midnight at the Oasis continues at Desert Sun Stadium tomorrow.
