Thousands pour into Yuma Job Fair
Hundreds of job seekers made their way to the Yuma Civic Center for the Yuma Job and Career Expo.
Many locals were there in hopes of getting hired by one of the 110 employers ready to hire new employees or to even offer advice on how to land a job within their company.
Various government agencies as well law enforcement, military, education and even medical agencies were in attendance, ready to interview and take resumes from job-seekers.
This job fair came at a perfect time as Yuma did see a spike in unemployment.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Yuma saw a spike in unemployment from the month of June to July. Yuma went from 19% to 22.2%. Preliminary information for the month of August saw a 1% increase in the rate on unemployed locals.
Job seekers reported giving up their job hunt online as it was not going anywhere.
” Well I wasn’t sure I was applying online and needed a change of venue, said Lisa Marie Moore. “I took some papers with me hopefully it helps me out.”
Over 110 employers from a variety of industries were there. Hiring manager’s on-site ready to interview and meet with eager job-seekers who were ready to get hired.
For others this was also their first job fair and was leaving extremely hopeful.
“I’ve seen several options and I am considering several of them,” said Araceli Delfin . “I also noticed that if you come a bit insecure, you sort of lose that fear when approaching booths and talking to employers, so you realize you can do it.”
