NEW DETAILS: El Centro stabbing believed not to be gang-related

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The El Centro Police Department (ECPD) says it believes a stabbing that left one dead is not connected to any gangs in the area.

According to ECPD, one man was found murdered after being stabbed multiple times in downtown El Centro on Saturday night.

Detective Jeff Malcomb is investigating the homicide, he says the victim is not a member of any gangs in the area.

"A lot of times if it happens on say like an area that is controlled by one gang, and it happens to be the victim is from an outside gang, that could be an indication, but in this case, there is nothing to suggest its gang-related," he said.

ECPD says it does have leads to a suspect, however, it declined to comment in an effort to preserve the investigation.
