Making a difference; New year, new you

Local business looks to improve your life inside and out

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT). The start of the new year comes with some predictability, as well as some surprises that may have people looking for healthier alternatives. So, in this installment of News Eleven's 'Making a Difference' we touch base with a local business offering natural remedies in an effort to help people start the new year on the right track.

Every year, millions look to the new year as an opportunity to reinvent themselves and possibly correct flaws they see in themselves. So, a few topics were brought to Krista Ducharme, owner of Sunshine Herbs & More; first and foremost, weight loss. Statistic have shown that gym memberships sky rocket at the beginning of the year and after a few weeks many call it quits. Krista, tells us that the first step should be a natural cleanser to remove any impurities, that followed by natural supplements to curve one's appetite, increase energy and motivate their metabolism.

Next, is the latest law which affects millions of smokers; with the legal age being raised to 21, many are left facing nicotine withdrawal. Ducharme tells us that their store offers CBD (Cannabidiol) vaping products. CBD has long been hailed as a safer alternative to nicotine; Ducharme points out that CBD helps with anxiety and stress, something she says may be why people smoke in the first place.

We followed that question with ones we believed are on a lot of people's minds. We asked Ducharme what she feels is the biggest misconception regarding CBD? In her opinion, she felt that many believe that CBD is derived from marijuana, when in all actuality it's derived from hemp. The Agriculture Act of 2018 identifies hemp as being a non-intoxicating cannabis. We followed that, by asking if a CBD product was used could that result in a failed drug test? Ducharme stated that although CBD has minimal traces of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) it may come up on a full spectrum test; she recommends that a subject ask for a isolated test.

Lastly, we touched on the opioid crisis facing the country, to which Ducharme offered a variety of natural anti-inflammatory herbs and extracts. Among them Turmeric, Frankincense and Ginger topped the list; she also pointed out that CBD has become the go-to medication for pain sufferers. Worldwide the demand for CBD has been increasing and it comes in a variety of products from rubs, oils, edibles and capsules.

Sunshine Herbs and More will be hosting their Health Start 2020 on January 10th and 11th from 10 in the morning, until closing time. During which time they'll discuss their products and give out samples. Their Yuma location is located at 264 West 32nd Street in the Big Curve Shopping Center and their Foothills location is at 11274 South Frontage Road at the Pioneer Shopping Center.
