YUHSD: Somerton High School’s mascot pick is down to 2
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) — A survey conducted by Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD) for Somerton High School's mascot shows finalists as the Toros or the Scorpions.
Over 3,000 locals participated in the survey that suggested 140 names which turned to five and now 2.
YUHSD released an initial survey in December in an attempt to seek suggestions for school colors and a mascot.
69.9% of respondents chose copper and navy blue as the new school's official colors.
In January, a second survey was released for the community to take their pick of the final five names: the Scorpions, Toros, Sabercats, Lions and Cyclones.
33.3% chose the Scorpions while 28.6% chose the Toros out of 2,387 responses.
The final survey opened today and will give locals a final chance at picking the school's mascot.
The survey can be found here and will close on Sunday, Feb. 13.
The district will be ready to announce the official name on Tuesday, March 1.
YUHSD says, there will be an opportunity to submit artwork for the school logo beginning at that time through Friday, March 18 and submissions are to be reviewed by a select committee to be announced in April.
