Community leaders honored in “Stone of Hope” Ceremony

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)- Saturday morning, 9 participants were honored for their work in the Imperial Valley.

The "Stone of Hope" ceremony honored leaders who are going above and beyond to better the lives of members in their community.

Marlene Thomas, a member of the Imperial Valley Social Justice Committee, said it's vital to recognize trailblazer so that others can follow their example.

"And I think that's important to people because a lot of time we look at name brands, we look at titles. We're not looking at titles, or who you work for. What are you doing in making a difference in people's lives? Because when you make a difference and give back, you're investing in a community, in the future."
