Somerton offering businesses loans to revamp exteriors

The City of Somerton is looking to give Main Street a facelift by offering local shops and restaurants a chance to revamp the look of their businesses.

The Downtown Somerton Facade Improvement loan program is open to 25 businesses. It offers an opportunity to make up to $10,000 worth of improvements.

The goal is to attract new customers with attractive new exteriors.

Somerton’s Economic Development Director, Hector Tapia , uses Antojitos Mexicanos , a Mexican food restaurant on Main Street, as the perfect example of how the city wants local businesses to look. Tapia says it’s patio and architectural cutouts capture the feel the city desires.

” It’ll be like a revolving account. So we can continue investing in Main street. That’s the intent to better the downtown area and at the same time help the business community, ” said Tapia .

The city of Someron will hold an informational meeting on the loans

The city is holding a meeting to give business owners more information at city hall on October 8, from 6-7 p.m., in the council chambers.
