Regional Cold Case Homicide Team

New forensic technique used to help identify victim

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A victim from a 1994 cold case has been identified with the use of a DNA sample.

In 1994, a woman was found buried in Riverside County, but her DNA could not be identified at the time, which turned the incident into a cold case.

A DNA sample was created through the Regional Cold Case Homicide Team in 2021 for forensic genealogy.

The Cold Case team located a possible match using genetic matches and lead to the identification of Patricia Cavallaro.

With her identfiction now discovered, next of kin was notificed and the investigation of Cavallaro's death can continue.
