Pet Talk: Meet Harold and Calico

For this week’s Pet Talk, we meet two pets who have been long awaiting a home.

Both are available for adoption at the Humane Society of Yuma.

First is Calico, a 2-year-old, you guessed it, Calico.

Calico cats are domestic cats that are comprised of a garden of cat colors, either vibrant orange white and black, or more white.

The various patterns of the calico patches are almost as unique as snowflakes.

You’ll never see two exactly alike.

A fun fact, Calicoes are almost all female.

Calicoes share that personality trait of tortoiseshell cats commonly described as “tortitude.”

They are sassy, spunky and very independent.

On the other hand, calicoes are sweet, loving, and loyal cats.

Calico very much fulfilled these traits as she rubbed around to be pet and scratched.

And Harold, he is a year old and weighs about 57 pounds.

He is a terrier-pit bull mix and has been at the shelter since February.

Though his breed may have a bad reputation, under all that muscle is a heart of gold.

When properly socialized and trained, pits can be some of the friendliest dogs you’ll meet pit bulls are naturally warm and kind-hearted canines.

Harold is no exception, though a little hyper when first out of his kennel, he walks very well on a leash and will simply sit by you and wait for treats.

Both pets are available for adoption at the Humane Society of Yuma.

The shelter is now open seven days per week.

Their hours are:

Monday – Friday: 10 A.M. – 6 P.M.

Saturday’s: 10 A.M. – 5 P.M.

Sunday’s: 12 P.M. – 4 P.M.

Because Harold has been at the shelter for more than 30 days, he is eligible for 50% off his adoption fee as part of the lonely hearts campaign.
