Border Patrol reflect on the bravery and dedication of fallen agents

Every year, Yuma Sector Border Patrol honors those who have given the ultimate sacrifice and have died in the line of duty.

At the U.S. Border Patrol Headquarters in Yuma, there is a memorial garden which is a somber reminder for Border Patrol agents that much can and will be required of them on the job.

It was a unifying moment as Yuma Sector Board Patrol agents of all rankings came together Tuesday morning to memorialize the 11 fallen agents since 1967.

The ceremony was a reflection of the bravery and dedication it takes to keep our nation safe.

Also, a representation of the close bond between agents, who work together every day and build a sense of accountability.

During the memorial ceremony, Chief Patrol Agent, Anthony J. Porvaznik, asked agents to, “Take care of one another, look out for one another. Be accountable to each other. If someone needs help or seems to be struggling, help them with the assistance they need.”

Special Operations Supervisor, Wes D. Burch, reminded everyone in attendance that, “Every one of these [fallen agents] started their shifts fully expecting to come home. And ultimately they didn’t. Not only are they fathers, husbands, brothers, sons, but they’re also coaches, volunteers and members of the community.”

Understanding the impact of losing someone so valuable, agents comforted the families of the 11 fallen heroes in their moment of grief.

Border Patrol said memorializing all of their brothers’ names is a significant way to continue to their legacies and remember their contributions to the community.
