Sinema meets with Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls
Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls to discuss challenges at the border and Yuma’s economic growth.
Sinema discussed the ongoing migrant crisis in Yuma with Mayor Nicholls and offered her office as a resource to address the concerns of the Yuma community.
Sinema held a roundtable meeting last week with key non-governmental Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement leaders to seek solutions to the migrant crisis in Arizona. Specifically, the group identified transportation solutions that will alleviate the stress on Arizona communities, including the city of Yuma.
Sinema also discussed how she is fighting to protect military projects at MCAS Yuma and Yuma Proving Ground. Yuma’s military installations are critical to Arizona’s economy and our country’s national security, says Sinema.
“I’m working to meet the challenges Arizona communities face, including securing the border and growing job opportunities,” said Sinema.
Sinema expressed her commitment to protecting the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, by joining her colleagues in requesting $32 million for the National Heritage Area program.
Sinema is continuing her work to secure funding for the Highway 95 Expansion Project that is critical for Yuma’s future economic viability.
