Woman hospitalized following vehicle rollover

A woman was hospitalized after being involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident at Cynthia Lane and Avenue D Tuesday night, according to Somerton Cocopah Fire Department.

Fire officials said firefighters arrived on scene and found a red Dodge Durango on its side with the lone female driver, hanging, and still seat belted in her seat.

A firefighter paramedic climbed into the vehicle and stabilized the woman. Other fire department personnel cut away the windshield to gain access to the patient.

The patient was complaining of pain to her right lower leg and was assisted out of the vehicle by fire department personnel. The woman was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The driver of the Dodge Durango told authorities that she was northbound when she saw an unknown object in the road, swerved and braked. This led in her vehicle going off the east side of the roadway and down a two to three-foot ledge which caused the vehicle to roll one and half times.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
