Police pursuit ends with seizure of fentanyl, other drugs

El Centro police arrested two men after they led police on a pursuit early Thursday morning.

According to Aaron Reel, El Centro Police Commander, two men were speeding in the area of 8th Street and Wake Avenue in El Centro just before 2:30 a.m.

An officer attempted to stop the blue Honda Civic before the vehicle started swerving and leading officers on a pursuit. Police said 21-year-old Lorenzo Esquivel and another passenger were inside the vehicle.

The pursuit ended when the car pulled into a driveway in the 400 B lock of Driftwood Drive.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a significant amount of cannabis, THC vape cartridges, Xanax bars, fake OxyContin/fentanyl pills, and other factors that led police to believe these controlled substances would be transported and sold.

Police were able to detain both suspects without further incident.

Esquivel was booked into the Imperial County Jail for charges related to sales and transportation of controlled substances and leading officers on a pursuit.
