Local law enforcement agencies patrolling the Yuma County Fair

Local law enforcement agencies are teaming up to patrol the Yuma County Fair to protect residents during the busiest time in Yuma County.

“What we do is reference people to cycling people into the park and cycling them out of the park,” said Sgt. Lori Franklin with the Yuma Police Department.

Sgt. Franklin said that traffic controls are one of the hardest and unsafest tasks for officers.

“Because you’re having to deal with people who have been in long lines for a long time and everyone is trying to get inside and get to the same place which tends to make them anxious, officers usually get the end of the stick with that,” said Sgt. Franklin.

Although there has not been a major incident at the fair, officers’ message to the community is to be patient.

“The lines can be long and it will take a while going in and out, so please have the patience for our officers they are doing the best they can to try and get people out in the safest quickest route,” said Sgt. Franklin.
