Yuma Sector Border Patrol help local man in distress at I-8 checkpoint

Border Patrol agents at the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint helped a Yuma resident in distress Friday afternoon.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said a 52-year-old Yuma resident arrived at the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint at about 1:15 p.m. in a conscious but visibly unresponsive state. A Border Patrol canine handler, who was also a certified emergency medical technician, provided immediate medical care.

After emergency medical services responded to the checkpoint, paramedics determined the man was in hyperglycemic shock.

He was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
