NEW YORK (AP) — Leylah Fernandez has beaten yet another seeded player at the U.S. Open to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal. The 19-year-old from Canada is the youngest woman to get this far at Flushing Meadows since Maria Sharapova in 2005. Fernandez edged No. 5 Elina Svitolina 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) on Tuesday and now will face No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka for a berth in the final. Fernandez beat past U.S. Open champions Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber earlier in the tournament. Daniil Medvedev reached the men’s semifinals in New York for the third consecutive year with a 6-3, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 win over Dutch qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp.
