YCSO lieutenant passes away after battling cancer

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of Lieutenant Ken Sanders who passed away Thursday morning after battling cancer for several years.

Lieutenant Ken Sanders began his career with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) on March 9, 2005, after serving two decades with the United States Marine Corps as a gunnery sergeant, the sheriff’s office said.

During his time with the sheriff’s office, Sanders was promoted through the ranks and reached the rank of lieutenant in 2014. Along with his promotion, he was reassigned to the Detention Bureau as the Security and Investigations Supervisor.

During his time with the Marine Corps, Sanders served at many duty stations, traveled all over Southeast Asia, and served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

He also received many awards throughout his military career. Sanders’ personal awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal 3rd Award.
