San Luis newlyweds enlist in the Army together

A local newlywed couple has enlisted in the Army two months after they got married.

San Luis natives Aram and Auri Molina joined the Army to attend the Officer Candidate School (OCS) after only two months of marriage, said the United States Recruiting Command (USAREC).

According to the U.S. Army’s website, OCS serves as the Army’s main training academy for prospective Army officers.

As a physical education teacher at San Luis High School (SLHS), 27-year-old Aram Molina told USAREC that he considered OCS after a family member in the Army spoke about it with the couple.

“Auri’s sister is already in the Army and has told us what a great experience and career choice it’s been,” Aram told USAREC. “I want to take my teaching and leadership skills to the next level and keep learning. Auri and I decided becoming an officer would help with that.”

Twenty-four-year-old Auri, who also teaches at SLHS, said her sister encouraged her to finish her education first after she voiced her intentions to join the armed forces.

Auri added that both San Luis natives had the opportunity to compete in college athletics. Auri played volleyball for Central Methodist University while Aram played soccer for Pima Community College and later graduated from Northern Arizona University.

The couple is expected to depart for basic combat training in July 2019.
