3 dead and 1 injured in vehicle versus labor bus crash

Three individuals died Thursday morning at 5 a.m. when the driver of a Nissan Sentra drove his vehicle into oncoming traffic going eastbound on State Route 98 in Calexico, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the Nissan was carrying two passengers when it struck a Bluebird Farm labor bus. The bus did not have any passengers on it, but the driver, 49-year-old Lucila Arizmendi was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center with complaints of lower back pain.

The 59-year-old man driving the Nissan, and his two male passengers, were killed on impact as a result. Everyone in the vehicle was said to be wearing a seat belt expect the 33-year-old male passenger. CHP said driving under the influence was not a factor in the accident.

The collision remains under investigation.
