44 Central Americans illegally enter the country
44 Central Americans, that included men, women, and children, are being processed to be sent back to their native countries after they illegally climbed over the border fence into Calexico.
Customs and Border Protection said the 44 Central American entered the country illegally by jumping the border fence and turning themselves over to Border Patrol agents last Friday.
Border Patrol agent, Anthony Garcia, said, “All individuals were taken to a processing facility where basic medical screening, immigration checks, and criminal history checks were conducted.”
Now they’re all waiting to be deported back to Central America.
“Since each person in this group of 44 broke the law by making an illegal entry, they will all be processed for removal proceedings,” said Garcia.
Customs and Border Protection officials said they stand by the border wall project which recently received federal funding and stressed it could prevent more illegal entries.
Garcia said, “Once construction is complete it will upgrade approximately 11 miles of border barrier that no longer meets our requirements. That area where the 44 Central Americans entered will be part of that upgrade.”
CBP officials added that the safety of American citizens and Border Patrol agents are their top priorities.
