Two arrested and $250,000 worth of heroin seized

Two people were arrested by Customs and Border Protection officers after attempting to smuggle $250,000 worth of heroin at the San Luis Port of Entry Tuesday night.

According to CBP, officers referred a woman driving a Nissan SUV to secondary inspection after a CBP canine detected an odor from within the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and discovered heroin wrapped around the torso of a 78-year-old man, who was a passenger.

Both individuals were arrested and were processed. Officers identified the man as a U.S. permanent resident and the woman as a 38-year-old U.S. citizen from San Diego. It was also discovered that the woman had an active felony warrant in Riverside, Calif. on first-degree robbery charges.

Authorities seized the drugs, vehicle, and turned the man over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. The woman was turned over to the San Luis Police Department.
