San Luis names new police chief

San Luis city officials appointed Richard Jessup as the permanent Chief of Police for San Luis on Wednesday.

According to a press release, Chief Jessup took office on December 13 after serving as acting chief of police since late June of 2017. Jessup began his law enforcement career in 1982 in the State of California. He later transferred to the Yuma Police Department in 1983.

Jessup has served with the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety, as a Highway Patrol Officer, and a detective with the San Luis Police Department.

Chief Jessup is also an adjunct college professor at Glendale Community College where he teaches in the Administration of Justice Studies program and is an instructor at Arizona Western College Law Enforcement Training Academy, where he lectures on Cultural Diversity.
