Bicyclist dies after being struck by car
Authorities said a man died after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Salton City Tuesday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol said they received reports of a traffic collision involving a bicyclist in the area of North Marina Drive at Sea Wind Avenue at about 2:51 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a man who was unresponsive.
An investigation revealed that the man was riding his bicycle westbound on North Marina Drive at Sea Wind Avenue on the right side of the roadway. A 30-year-old woman, driving a 2001 Ford Focus at about 30 MPH, was heading westbound on North Marina Drive at Sea Wind Avenue behind the bicyclist. The woman began to pass the bicyclist on the left, when the right front corner of her vehicle struck the back of the bicycle, causing the bicyclist to fall off the bicycle and onto the roadway.
Authorities said the rider sustained fatal injuries from the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation. The identity of the bicyclist is still unknown.
