Suspect arrested following officer-involved shooting

One suspect is behind bars and another is in stable condition after an officer-involved shooting in El Centro.

Shots were fired in a plaza after two suspects attempted to hit deputies with a stolen vehicle.

A chase ensued into a residential area where deputies apprehended the suspects but not without putting up a fight first.

Lt. Jimmy Duran of the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office said, “When the officers exited their vehicle and attempted to approach the vehicle driven by the suspects, the suspect’s vehicle went towards the direction of the officer. Directly at the officers. At that point, shots were fired.”

One of the suspects is now in stable condition after being shot in the torso.

“One of the suspects was struck and is injured. And is currently being flown to Palm Desert for medical treatment,” said Duran.

After the suspects were arrested, they were found to be armed.

Duran added, “Both suspects were taken into custody and at this point, we did find a firearm in the possession of one of the suspects.”

The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office asks that if anyone has any information on the officer-involved shooting that they contact their tip line.
