CBP: 18-year-old arrested on drug smuggling charges

Border Patrol agents at the Wellton station arrested an 18-year-old man after discovering narcotics Wednesday morning, according to US Customs and Border Protection.

CBP said they referred a shuttle van to the secondary inspection area for immigration checks at approximately 8:30 a.m. when a canine positively alerted to the backpack of a passenger traveling in the rear of the van.

Two cellophane wrapped packages were discovered weighing 2.35 pounds.

CBP said they tested positive for heroin and is valued at $40,984.

The 18-year-old man was arrested on drug smuggling charges, according to CBP.
