FOP claims Yuma police won’t see pay plan until January

Yuma police will have to wait another month to hear more from the City of Yuma about a new pay plan, according to the Fraternal Order of Police.

Greg Wilkinson, City of Yuma administrator, met with Yuma police officers in a closed meeting Thursday evening to discuss the progress of the new pay plan officers and are hoping will help recruit and retain, according to Henry Valenzuela, the Fraternal Order of Police Chair.

Valenzuela was inside that meeting and said the news was disappointing.

“December 19 was when something was supposed to have been presented and we found out tonight that now that’s going to be pushed back all the way until the end of January and that’s really disappointing because I know that that there are 20 officers that have applied to leave the Yuma Police Department,” said Valenzuela.

Valenzuela claimed that he knows this number to be true dating back to November 7. He explained many are of higher ranks.
