Local school drums up the Christmas spirit at parade

This year’s 73 RD El Centro Christmas Parade had a special meaning for members of the Heber Hawks Drum line, a local middle school.

Gerardo Rodriguez said, “What I like most about the parade was everyone’s enthusiasm, how everyone worked hard and they all had fun.”

Silverio Bobadiooa said, “Everybody’s nice, funny and creative at the same time.”

The Hawks were one of 130 parade entries. They included marching bands, cheer and dance drill teams and colorful float with the theme “Elf on the Shelf.”

Mia Fernandez said, “It was really creative and we worked so hard to come out here and – it makes me happy.”

“All the other floats were very creative and they really represented the spirit of Christmas,” Rodriguez said.

Over 5,000 people lined several city blocks enjoying themselves and the parade. For some in the drum line, being there was much closer to the heart.

“Playing with the drum line because it was like a family and we all know each other,” Bobadiooa said.

Fernandez added that participating at the parade with the group was an amazing experience.

The parade was organized by El Centro Chamber of Commerce and Los Vigilantes.
