400 migrants on caravan travel through San Luis Rio Colorado

The migrant caravan traveling through Mexico is passing just miles away from Yuma County.

A total of nine caravans escorted by Mexican federal authorities with approximately 400 migrants have passed through San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora on its way to Tijuana, according to San Luis Rio Colorado Civil Protection.

“We’re confident they’re going directly to Mexicali and Tijuana. It has been happening since Saturday, right? One of the first buses passed with people who want to cross. We’re worried about the security of the people here in Sonora, Rio Colorado. We will have to take all of the precautions,” said Santos Gonzalez Yescas, mayor of San Luis Rio Colorado.

He explained his plan as they gear up for migrants in his city.

“We are following it; they’re our brothers from Central America. We need to give them our hand,” said Gonzalez Yescas.

A different narrative than what we’ve heard from President Trump who has made it clear that migrants must legally present themselves at the ports of entry. He added claims of asylum are meritless.

Magibe , 18, who left Chiapas, Mexico and traveled to the San Luis, Mexico-Arizona border, explained the crime he has seen that he compares to the crimes happening in Honduras.

“Right now the Hondurans are coming on that caravan. Good and bad people are coming. Like them, the border is where they do various things. They kidnap kids and they remove their organs,” said Magibe .

Honduras is one of the countries that Central Americans are fleeing due to its high crime rate.
