Ten-year-old struck by vehicle in El Centro

A 10-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle after he attempted to cross in between stopped traffic in El Centro on Tuesday, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said at about 7:47 a.m., a 10-year-old child, of Heber, was trying to cross in between stopped traffic on Dogwood Road. A woman driving a 2017 Hyundai was heading northbound on Dogwood Road at 25 MPH just north of State Route 86. According to investigators, early reports indicated that the child did not check the intersection and ran out into the northbound lane of Dogwood Road. The driver attempted to brake but could not stop in time and struck the boy before coming to a stop.

The boy was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center after he complained of pain on his right leg and right side of the face.

Authorities said they do not have information about the child’s condition.
