Home catches fire with eight dogs inside, roof collapses
Firefighters battling a blaze at a home in the 1700 block of South 29th Drive Tuesday morning ended up rescuing eight dogs.
Yuma firefighters responded to the area and were met with heavy flames inside the home. The roof partially collapsed while fire crews were working, but there were no reported injuries.
YFD said the home sustained heavy damage and will not be able to be reoccupied. The fire was soon contained and homes nearby were not damaged. No injuries were reported and the two tenants were not home at the time of the fire.
Officials said eight dogs were inside the home when the fire happened. Firefighters gave oxygen via a mask designed for animals to one of the dogs rescued from the home.
The mask was part of a “Fido Bag” that had been donated to YFD. Desert Veterinary Clinic, the Yuma Kennel Club, and the “Fetch Foundation” donated both “Fido Bags” and “Wag N O2 Fur Life Bags” to the fire department.
The fire remains under investigation although officials believe it does not appear to have been intentionally set.
