Residents in Citrus City are recommended to continue to boil tap water until further notice

Residents in the area of Citrus City, near Tacna, are suffering the consequences of the infected water.

“I want to be able to drink the water where I live,” shared Warren Peete, a long time resident of Citrus City.

For many residents in the city, this is now their reality.

“They said to boil the water but we are just not going to drink it…” said Peete.

E.coli bacteria was found in two water samples served by the Mohawk Utility Company. The Mohawk Utility Company said that they will take this issue to the state and are working diligently to resolve it. The ADEQ also said an inspector was out on the fields Thursday and are waiting on lab results.

“We are doing an additional investigation and we have an inspector out there to look at the facility today, but e.coli can come from a variety of different sources so rather than speculating I rather we wait until that inspection.” shared Water Quality Division Director for the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, Trevor Baggiore.

According to ADEQ, Currently there hasn’t been any residents in the area with the E.coli infection, but ADEQ says they urge residents to continue to boil their water until further notice.
