San Luis man arrested for aggravated assault, criminal trespassing

UPDATE:

Twenty-eight-year-old Raul Tejeda is now facing six felony charges after being arraigned at the Yuma Justice Court on Wednesday.

Judge Greg Stewart informed Tejeda that prosecutors from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office had filed a criminal complaint against him and that he will most likely go before the grand jury to determine if there is probable cause for them to proceed to Superior Court.

If not, Judge Stewart explained that he would return to Justice Court for the preliminary hearings, at which time he would make the determination.

The charges contained in that criminal complaint are aggravated assault upon a police officer, kidnapping, burglary, aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument, unlawful flight from pursuing law enforcement vehicle and criminal damage.

According to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of an assault in the 400 block of S. May Avenue and learned that the suspect, now identified as Tejeda, had allegedly forced his way into the victims residence, threatening to kill her and assaulting her multiple times.

The victim was able to escape after five hours and called law enforcement.

Tejeda was attempting to flee the area in his red 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee as deputies arrived on scene and purposely collided with the driver side door of a marked YCSO patrol truck to get away.

Yuma police received a tip that Tejeda had been spotted at the Del Sol Market, located at 280 S. 4th Avenue and a perimeter was set up around the store.

Tejeda was found hiding in an employee bathroom and taken into custody.

Judge Stewart set a $250,000 cash-only bond and scheduled his next court date, a preliminary hearing, for 4 p.m. on August 2.
