Flag raising ceremony names service members of the year

This morning the Caballeros de Yuma held the 32nd annual Independence Day Flag Raising ceremony at Armed Services Park in Yuma.

The military and Yuma community gathered as the National Anthem was playing and Boy Scout troop 8054 raised the American flag.

They also presented four awards to local service members.

“Those service men or women have shown their outstanding service to each of those three services and we’re here to honor them today through the Caballeros de Yuma.” said Jeffrey Ruby, Vice President of Caballeros de Yuma.

The winners of the awards were nominated by their commanders, according to Ruby.

The winners include:

Staff Sargent Avarm Collin, YPG Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year

Hospital Corpsman Second Class Robert Ticen, U.S. Navy Petty Officer of the Year

Hospitalman Austin Morrow, U.S. Navy Sailor of the Year

Corporal Steven Goller, Marine Corps. Air Station Non-Commissioned Officer Marine of the Year

Lance Corporal William Stoner III, Marine Corps. Air Station Marine of the Year
