Excessive Heat Warning issued for Yuma, Imperial, La Paz counties

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Yuma, Imperial, and La Paz counties. It remains in effect Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Temperatures will reach up to 112 degrees in some places because of high pressure remaining in the region.

It is recommended to take frequent breaks in the shade if you are working outdoors. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Wear light colored clothes, sunglasses, and sunscreen if you will be outdoors. Do not leave children or animals unattended in cars.

There is an increased potential for illnesses related to extreme heat. Recognize the symptoms of a heat stroke. Some symptoms of heat related illnesses include a headache, muscle cramps, and fast pulse. Fainting is also possible.

After Wednesday, daily high temperatures will decrease to below normal by Friday. Winds will pick up and gusts will reach up to 25 miles per hour that day. There will also be a slight chance of precipitation as moisture rises from Hurricane Bud.
