Teachers and parents upset over Crane District decision to remain open

While thousands of teachers are getting ready to walk out, most of the Crane School District is preparing for another day of class.

“I am very supportive of our school district and the decisions that they have made,” shared Liana Goldsboro, a professional development coach at H.L. Suverkrup Elementary School.

Crane decided to continue with a regular school schedule with the exception of Ronald Reagan Fundamental School.

But, despite some teachers agreeing with the district others are upset.

“The superintendent and the board chose to take our subs and redirect them to other schools,” said Deb Childs, a teacher at Ronald Reagan Fundamental School.

The district’s website reads Ronald Reagan is closed due to a “lack of staff.”

Richard and Deb Childs shared that was not valid, in which they continued by saying, “not accurate we were covered until they removed our subs.”

Regarding the district’s decision to remain open, parents were not too happy.

“I’m really disappointed that crane district did not close down, I think it is really important to support the teachers in this movement, especially since it is not particularly controversial,” shared a parent at HLS.

Crane district’s next board meeting is on Wednesday, May 2nd at 5 pm.

All parents and staff are invited to attend.
